Picking Wild Blueberries on the Sebasco, Maine Peninsula

Picking Blueberries Sebasco%2C Maine Peninsula

Today's picture is my beautiful niece picking wild blueberries with me on the Sebasco, Maine peninsula of Phippsburg. Blueberry picking is a long-standing tradition in our family which has likely been carried on for about 10 generations. The best places were shown to us as young children when our mouths and fingers would be stained blue with all the berries we'd eat as we were supposed to be helping pick.

Oh, how we loved it when the berries became ripe, and still do today. I love to freeze some and can some and enjoy them in the middle of a long Maine winter or give them to family who live far away from Maine. Next will come the wild rasberries and then blackberries that also grow abundantly in Phippsburg.

I've been up to the barn cleaning and working on renovations still for my art show and sale there the end of this month. Time seems to be flying by but things are coming along nicely and it's looking better and more like a real gallery every day.

My new kayak that I got from the Captain for my birthday is awesome and I've been twice so far. Wanted to go again yesterday and today but think I overdid it a bit the first few days as my muscles were rather sore. That's probably a good thing, though. Wouldn't mind getting into bikini shape as this is turning out to be one of the best summers we've seen in awhile.

Mailed the painting I made for my father out to him yesterday. I was going to paint cows in it but tried four times and still didn't like them. I'll need to practice them more before I try to paint them again. Want to paint a scene of a local lobster fisherman photographed recently and would love to paint one of my niece. Never tried painting people yet but have done some sketching and was happy with the results. Need about 20 more hours in each day to get it all done it seems. Well, time to go. Getting late. More later.
